If anything, locals seem to feel that George lowered the tone of the place by becoming president. However, Kennebunkport is not actually all that different from anywhere else along the coast - which is presumably what's really bothering the locals. There's no great point paying in-town hotel rates when there are so many motels along the highways. Forty miles north of Kennebunkport is the Cape Elizabeth lighthouse , commissioned by George Washington in 1791 and familiar from postcards and posters. The Lobster Shack (tel 207/799-1677) just below the light (and above the horn) is great for fresh seafood. </body>
